Film Screening: Comic + Film in Spain: Intimate Accounts of Autism and Alzheimer's

Spanish Programme, School of Modern Languages and Cultures HKU has the pleasure of inviting you to the Film Screening:

COMIC + FILM IN SPAIN: INTIMATE ACCOUNTS OF AUTISM AND ALZHEIMER’S 

This film miniseries showcases Spanish films based on world-renowned graphic novels. These two films tackle widespread but often misunderstood health issues, such as Autism and Alzheimer’s disease.
After each screening, we will have the unique opportunity to speak with the authors of the original graphic novels.

FILM 1: Arrugas (Wrinkles)
March 18, Monday, 18:30. Chow Yei Ching Building, G/F - CBA, HKU. 
Spanish with English subtitles. 

Synopsis: At senior care center, a geriatric con artist tries to prevent his new friend, who suffers from early Alzheimer's symptoms, from being transferred to the “lost causes” floor. Animated film adaptation of the graphic novel by Paco Roca. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZUea1yIWKQ

FILM 2: María y Yo (Maria and I)
March 27, Wednesday, 18:30. Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building LG1 - CYPP3, HKU.  
Spanish and Catalan with English subtitles. 

Synopsis: A single father and his 14-year-old autistic daughter go on a journey. Documentary film adaptation of the graphic novel by Miguel Gallardo. Trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lYtW7bAYWTw

Miguel Gallardo, author of “María and I” and lead actor in the film, will attend the event for a post-screening discussion with Dr Paul W C Wong, Project Director (Family Support) of JC A-Connect.
