Date: 9 November 2007 (Friday)

The School of Modern Languages and Cultures, HKU and The Office of International Student Exchange, The Registry, HKU

in association with

The Consulate General of Switzerland in Hong Kong

are pleased to present a performance by:

ELIANA BURKI ‘THE OTHER FACE OF ALPHORN’ AND BAND

Date: November 9, 2007 (Friday)
Time: 12:45pm – 2:00pm
Venue: Global Lounge, The University of Hong Kong

Originally used by Swiss alpine herdsmen to communicate with villagers living down in the valleys, the alphorn is a symbol of Swiss alpine traditions. The groundbreaking 24-year-old Swiss musician Eliana Burki pushes this traditional instrument to its limits and gives it a new lease of life, using it to play her own brand of jazz, soul, pop and funk - an unexpected and exciting combination of the old and the new.

Eliana Burki is in Hong Kong as part of an Asian Tour which also sees her performing in Taiwan and Singapore. She is accompanied by Cole de Genova on keys and vocals, Rozhan Razman on bass, and Jerry Schlapbach on drums and percussion.

The performance is free and will last around one hour. All are welcome.
