The influence of Japan Culture in HK pop scene in the 80’s

Abstract:
Start from the 80’s, the Japanese Pop culture became a very great impact to the entertainment field of HK, as well as the other Asian countries. The successful glooming of Japanese artists’ image, show performance , dance choreography led the trend of Artist Image and Styling. The overall popularity and social impact of Japan pop idols led the trend in the teenager’s world. The fans bought the Japanese pop magazine, learning Japanese, formed cheering group to support their artists, supporting their idol in their concerts or other public activities. There were formation of fan club and artist management companies. Local Japanese Magazine like "Good Time Magazine" ; "Kaiyoigai" or "Music Week" successfully broke into the printing media. Most of Canton Pop were originated from Japanese songs and the production format of the show was completely changed.

The thesis would focus on the impact of Japanese pop culture in Hong Kong show business and the youth pop culture. The research methodology requires gathering relevant data from the specified pop culture in Hong Kong in the 80’s. Data collection will consist of interviews, observations to collect substantive and relevant data. The research shall become an important issue to understand the pop history of Hong Kong.
