Talk: The Art and Practice of Bullfighting

Date: 13 March 2012

The Spanish Programme, The School of Modern Languages and Cultures has the pleasure of inviting you to the following talk:

The Art and Practice of Bullfighting

Mr. Javier Sanz, Spanish Trade Commissioner

Date: March 13, 2012 (Tue)
Time: 4: 15 pm – 5: 15 pm
Venue: Global Lounge, HKU
Language: English

Have you ever seen a bullfight? Spain is famous for this practice, which is common in most of the Spanish-speaking world and other areas of the world such as France. It is even being introduced in some parts of China, as the local press has recently reported. This thousand-age Spanish tradition has not been exempt from controversy, with many critics within and outside Spain calling for its end. As a result of this, there are parts of Spain where this practice is banned but, what are the reasons behind the persistence of this fight to death between man and bull for so many centuries? Some people, including intellectuals and common people, think that this is an art which should not disappear. Mr. Javier Sanz, a Spanish national living in Hong Kong, will present his personal views on this art, and will try to develop a deep appreciation for this art/tradition during an informal talk. Don't miss it!

This event is part of Hispanic Month at HKU 2012.
