Talk: Puerto Rican Culture and Literature in its Caribbean Historical Perspective

Puerto Rican Culture and Literature in its Caribbean Historical Perspective 

Dr. Zoe Jimenez Corretjer

In her talk, Dr. Corretjer will present an overview of Puerto Rico's most important influences of history and heritage in its art and culture.  She will present the most important characteristics of Puerto Rican  culture in relation to its rich historical background.  Arts and literature will be presented in context with a philosophical and political panorama of Puerto Rican traditions. 

Zoe Jimenez Corretjer is a Full Professor of the Department of Humanities at The University of Puerto Rico at Humacao.  She has published 15 books which include poetry, fiction and academic essays.  She has received several awards and recognitions, amongst them Puerto Rico’s First National Essay Award in 2007.  She received the First Poetry Medal of the University of Puerto Rico in 1986.  Zoe is the Director of the International Journal of Humanistic Studies and Literature and the Director of the House of Poets of Puerto Rico.  She has worked in the editorial world for more than thirty years editing journals and books and combines her writing career with  academic investigation and teaching.
