Mr. Manuel Troconis, Consul General of Venezuela in Hong Kong, will talk about Venezuela and the current development of bilateral relations between this South American country and China. The presentation will provide insight into Venezuela's transition from Spanish colony to republic over 200 years ago. Mr. Troconis will address the onset, development and significance of the oil industry. He will also look at the current socio-economic and political situation as well as discuss the country's main cultural traits, with an analysis of the most important human and economic development indexes of recent years. The talk will emphasize the impact of a number of sino-venezuelan energy and technology projects, including the development of communication satellites, the country's railway network, and the establishment of computer and cellphone manufacturing facilities.

Mr. Troconis' talk is organized as part of the Spanish Programme's Course LANG2082: Spanish for Business I.

The Venezuelan film Libertador Morales, El Justiciero (2009) will be screened at 5:00 pm on the same day as Mr. Troconis' talk.
