SMLC Overseas Language Course Study Grants 2006-2007

Aims and Procedure

i. Objective : To provide financial reward to meriting students attending 3 to 4-week summer language courses or one to two-semester study programmes overseas.

ii. Eligibility : Undergraduates minoring or majoring in SMLC courses in all languages : Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Thai.

iii. Value of individual grant : 5,000 (ceiling).

iv. Criteria for award : Academic excellence.

v. Procedure : Through teachers nomination.

vi. Timeframe : Nominations from the teaching staff are called at the end of the first semester (December-January) via programme coordinators.

vii. Selection : The Student Development Fund Committee receives the nominations and distributes the fund in a proportionate way.

viii. Award : The successful recipients will be notified by mid-February 2007. They will need to confirm their acceptance of the grant within 3 to 4 weeks. The recipients will receive the fund upon providing evidence of completion of the course overseas. There may be however some early payments made for students who engage in long stays of one or two semesters.
