Påskafton – Swedish Easter Celebration

Date: 1 April 2009
Time: 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm
Venue: Global Lounge, HKU

The traditional Easter (påskafton) week in Sweden lasts from Thursday to Monday, and kicks off with a trick or treat-like candy hunt. Children dress up as påskkärringar (Easter witches) and are given sweets in return for a song. Typical Easter activities include eating eggs and delicious creamy almond buns called semla, as well as bringing birch twigs into the house and decorating them with coloured feathers to welcome in the spring.

Come and experience påskafton for yourselves!

• Short Introduction to Sweden by the Swedish Consulate and Chamber of Commerce
• Performance by the Swedish Choir “Nordic Delight”
• Talk on Easter Traditions and Easter Egg Painting Workshop
• Swedish Folk Music Student Performance (including an ABBA medley)
• Traditional Easter semla Buns and Tasty Swedish Snacks
