From Kowloon City to the World

Date: 15 February 2009

As part of an initiative to encourage local secondary school students to explore the world outside their classroom, the School of Modern Languages and Cultures and the New Asia Middle School are once again co-organizing a one-day carnival, “From Kowloon City to the World”, at the New Asia Middle School’s facilities in Kowloon City. This is the third time this event is being staged; the 2007 and 2008 carnivals received strong support from other secondary schools in the Kowloon City area.

This year the focus will be on showcasing Western languages and cultures, i.e. French, German, Greek, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, as well as American and other European cultures. In addition to performances, games, and food tastings held throughout the day, several overseas exchange students from The University of Hong Kong will be participating in the carnival and sharing their experiences.

The aim of the carnival is to provide secondary school students with an opportunity to experience other languages and cultures first hand, to give them the desire to find out more about them and study them in the future.
