As a center of growth, power and cultural diversity, the American city has always occupied a crucial place in America's vision of itself as a new nation. The six films included in this series - which are all somehow connected to the city of Philadelphia - offer a cultural representation of the American urban environment as a place where fortunes and lives are made or lost.

Last in the series is the 2004 adventure film ‘National Treasure’, starring Nicholas Cage, Diane Kruger, and Jon Voight. Cage plays Benjamin Franklin Gates, a treasure hunter looking for a war chest hidden by the Founding Fathers after the Revolutionary War. Gates believes one of the clues to the whereabouts of this chest is written on the back of the United States Declaration of Independence adopted by the Second Continental Congress on July 4, 1776 in Philadelphia.
