Susan Castillo is a Professor in the Department of American Studies at King's College, London. Her anthology of Early American writing, The Literatures of Colonial America, brings together a rich variety of works of colonial literature from across the Americas, covering the period from first contact, through to settlement and the emergence of national identities, with an emphasis on the American Revolutionary period. Professor Castillo recently joined an illustrious BBC Radio 4 panel of U.S. and U.K. scholars to debate the development of the United States in a three part series currently being broadcast on BBC Radio 4 entitled "America, Empire of Liberty," constructed around the themes of empire, liberty and faith.
